Delve deep into the energies of the Winter and Summer Solstices, and the Spring and Fall Equinoxes, to create a space of pause – to reflect and center; support your mental, emotional and spiritual health; energize your creativity; and foster grounding and nurturing relationships to your home place. Delve into each season’s metaphorical significance and symbolism to cultivate connections to self, nature, and community.
Writing Through the Changes is a year-long supported and self-directed creative writing, journaling, meditation, and nature and community connection course focused on the year’s seasonal markers. Offered by writer and educator Molly Murfee, a specially curated set of prompts, exercises, and inspirational readings unlock the cathartic and inspirational potential of writing when married to intentional and slowed time in nature. You’ll unearth a positive outlet and regular rhythm for your creativity and self-expression by delving into the season’s metaphorical significance and symbolism, while establishing seasonally-based personal ceremony as your own internal seasons rise and fall with the external ones.
This year-long course offers structure for establishing a regular writing and journaling practice; grounding and finding solace in creating a relationship to home place through outdoor immersion and connection activities; and finding connective threads within the community creating a sense of belonging and purpose; all to put in your toolbox to help navigate the ever-shifting waters of both these times and our human lives.
Emphasis is placed on disconnecting from technology and obligation and intentionally carving out quiet space for yourself at these four pivot points, establishing meaningful and personal ritual and celebration for every season. As a self-directed course, materials become available online, formatted in various downloadable modalities: video, audio, and a pdf packet, so you can complete them anytime, anywhere, and for however long you choose. Four live Zoom Sessions and four week-long Online Forums with the Learning Community help support your journey and serve as touchstones for establishing your practice.
How it Works
As a supported, self-directed course you set your own pace and schedule – completing the activities at any time that works for you. You’ll receive introductory materials November 30 to get you started, followed by four seasonally-oriented Portfolio Packets, delivered to you two weeks before each marker’s turning (December, March, June and September), to inspire writing, reflection, interaction, curiosity and creativity.
Along with the Portfolio Packet delivery, we’ll meet as a Learning Community on a live Zoom Session to explore the season’s themes, ask questions, discuss emerging topics, and share from our Portfolios. Live Zoom Sessions occur once every three months according to the Solstices and Equinoxes.
Writing Through the Changes begins December 2025 with the Winter Solstice Portfolio Packet, with the final full session in September with the Autumn Equinox Portfolio Packet, and a final closing session Sunday, November 1. Additionally, during each season there will be a week long Online Forum as a touchstone for maintaining the practices, discussing experiences via a group chat, and uploading pages of your Portfolio, should you choose.
Testimonials
“I want you to know how much your Writing Through the Changes course has meant to me. Even now, after the course is over, I return to the activities again and again when I am feeling too rushed by the world, and need to re-ground in the season and what matters. It has become a touchstone for me.”

“At my own pace’” is just what I need to create a writing routine, I’ve enjoyed stretching out the prompts and taking my time with them, and got better at dedicating to the practice two to three times a week. The materials are very easy to access and follow. I really enjoyed the videos, readings, freewriting prompts, and meditations, which definitely helped get my thoughts and ideas flowing. I’m excited about my new journaling practice, and I loved setting up my writing portfolio. Knowing it was not just for writing but for all the creative juices, it is my one-stop repository for all things creative. I even just discovered an art store! Thanks for putting this out there and continuing to share your gifts and creativity!”
