Erika Rosenberg, PhD.
Scientist, author, and educator Erika Rosenberg, Ph.D is a beloved meditation teacher
who has taught at places as diverse as Google, Inc., Lerab Ling Monastery, Upaya Zen
Center, Esalen Institute, Kripalu, and Burning Man.
Experienced in psychedelic harm reduction and integration, Erika worked with the Zendo
Project and the Psychedelic Sangha. She connects rigorous scientific research with
ancient traditions. As co-creator of the Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) program
at Stanford University, Founding Faculty at Compassion Institute, and Faculty at Nyingma
Institute, Erika is dedicated to helping people find resilience and build connection through
contemplative training.
Dr. Rosenberg’s research focuses on emotion, facial expression, and contemplative
science. She is a world-renowned expert in facial expression and the Facial Action Coding
System, with clients in academia, industry, and the digital arts worldwide. At UC Davis’
Center for Mind and Brain, she is a member of the Saron Lab, conducting groundbreaking
multidisciplinary research in contemplative science. Her published research spans
studies of basic emotional processes, social influences on facial expression recognition,
the effects of meditation on emotions, and psychological risk factors for heart disease. Her
books include What the Face Reveals (with Paul Ekman) and the widely adopted textbook,
Psychology: Perspectives & Connections.
