Bob King
Bob King became a student of Trungpa Rinpoche in 1970 and at that same time began a successful career as a building contractor. As a volunteer, he served as project manager for the construction of The Great Stupa of Dharmakya for 14 years. Since then, he has organized annual work programs in order to maintain and enhance the Stupa and its environment a well as to provide opportunities for others to connect and deepen their relationship to this sacred expression of awakened mind.
Bob was born in Michigan, coming to Colorado originally to attend college. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1969. One year after graduating college, Bob and his wife, Lindy King, met Trungpa Rinpoche – coming his students soon after. Bob also started his own construction company during this time, splitting time between Buddhist practice, sangha activities, and building his business.
In the Sangha, Bob participated in the Kasung, Kusung, Upaya Council, and teaching the Ngedon School. Naturally, he and his company were also involved in many construction projects within the sangha as well!
In 1985, while Bob and Lindy ad their family were living in Nepal, Bob made a connection with another Buddhist teacher, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, with whom Bob studied Dzogchen until Rinpoche’s passing in 1996. Bob found Rinpoche’s emphasis on retreat practice both a powerful motivation and incredible tool for understanding Buddhist teaching.
Today Bob lives with his wife in Boulder, where he still divides his time – now between his family life, with his wife, three children, and five grandchildren, alongside work, and practice.
