About the Retreat
How do we navigate with wisdom, compassion, and fierce courage in an age of spiritual crisis?
Please join Buddhist teachers Michael Carroll and Susan Piver for a week of meditation, community, and real talk about how to take our practice off the cushion and into the beauty and confusion of our world.
We Will Discuss:
Expressing the 6 paramitas (transcendent actions) that inspire beneficial activity in the world
Distinguishing between true compassion vs idiot compassion
Avoiding “compassion fatigue”
Maintaining agency over our attention as a fundamental gesture of sanity. Remaining vital, wise, and confident while attending to suffering (our own and others’).
Unleashing sources of indestructible resilience and joy through mindfulness-awareness meditation.

What to Expect:
This program includes lengthy periods of sitting meditation, daily yoga and Qi Gong, and an exploration of what it means to move in the world with an awakened heart. Refuge and bodhisattva vows will be offered.

Tents
12′ x 14′ tents have two twin beds, two bookcases and a hanging clothes rack. Each campground offers a shared bathhouse. Summer platform tents are available from late May through early September. A tent can be rented as a single (without a roommate) or a double (with a roommate).
Maitri Village Single and Double Rooms
In our Maitri Village Campus, a short walk from downtown, we have 3 rustic cabins (Flame, Wind, Water) These each contain five double rooms, outfitted with two twin beds. The cabins have electricity and heat, bedding is provided. Guests make use of gendered bathhouses in a nearby, separate building.
If you are traveling alone and reserve a bed in a double room, we will assign you a roommate.
Dormitories
Rooms with beds for up to 7-8 people. Gender-segregated with men in their own dorm and women in another. The dorms use a shared bathroom down the hall, which is also equipped with shower stalls.
Monk Rooms
A cost-effective option for participants looking for indoor, solitary lodging, but who don’t mind using a shared bathroom or are looking for a more affordable retreat solution. These rooms are in the same hall as the Ridgen Dormitories, but offer more privacy than the dorms. In addition to a bed, bedding, a private room and closet, the monk rooms also have a large window and a desk and desk chair for added comfort.
Single and Double Rooms
The perfect choice for a retreat where you want both your own space and your own bathroom. Each room offers a little more space, a dresser and closet, and a 3/4s bathroom (toilet, sink, and shower, no bathtub) attached to each room.
