Drala Mountain Center Part-Time Finance Manager

Overview

Drala Mountain Center (DMC) seeks a part-time Finance Manager to manage the organization’s accounting and financial systems with accuracy, clarity, and integrity. This role ensures that DMC’s financial operations run smoothly day to day, supporting transparency, sustainability, and alignment with our contemplative mission. The ideal candidate combines financial skill, operational understanding, and care for community life. While a finance degree or CPA is not required, the position calls for a practical, detail-oriented individual with experience in bookkeeping, budgeting, and nonprofit accounting systems. 

Reports to: Executive Director

Core Purpose

To maintain DMC’s financial health by managing accounting systems, budgets, and reporting processes in collaboration with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, Chief Finance Officer, and external bookkeeper. 

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Oversee bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliations in collaboration with the external bookkeeper.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial entries in QuickBooks Online and ADP.
  • Maintain an organized system of financial records, receipts, and documentation.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee payment approvals and reimbursements.
  • Support the Executive Director and Deputy Director in preparing financial reports for the Board and Finance Committee.

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of annual and departmental budgets.
  • Track revenue and expense trends; flag variances and emerging issues.
  • Generate monthly financial summaries and cash flow updates for leadership review.
  • Support the Executive Director with forecasting and program-based analysis.

Internal Controls & Systems

  • Maintain consistent accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Ensure proper expense categorization across programs, facilities, and fundraising departments.
  • Recommend and implement small process improvements to increase efficiency and transparency.

Support for Audit & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare financial data for grants, tax filings, and external reporting as needed.

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit or mission-based financial management, operations or bookkeeping.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, ADP, Excel/Google Sheets, and financial reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to DMC’s contemplative and community-based culture.

Preferred

  • Experience with fund accounting, audits, or grant reporting.
  • Familiarity with budgeting for retreats, programs, or hospitality operations.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Schedule & Compensation

  • 10-20 hours per week, flexible schedule with some on-site presence preferred.
  • Salary: commensurate with experience and hours.
  • On-site housing may be available for periods of retreat or project immersion.
  • Partial benefits: paid time off, retreat participation, and meals when on-site.

  • We anticipate that most incoming employees and volunteers will be housed indoors. Many of our indoor housing options will require living with one or more staff members in separate bedrooms. Some incoming staff may be housed in canvas tents from early June through early September. Employees are charged $100.00 per month for housing. Do you understand our current housing situation?
  • Your assigned housing may require you to share a gendered bathhouse with other community members and guests. We also have a private gender neutral restroom available for showering. Are you willing to share a gendered bathhouse with curtained showers?
  • Participation in DMC's meal plan is required for all employees who live in DMC-provided housing. The meal plan costs $350.00 per month and typically includes three prepared meals per day, coffee, tea, fruit, and snacks. Meat is offered at some meals. Vegetarian, vegan, and wheat-free options are available at each meal. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any other dietary needs. Employees and volunteers do not have use of a kitchen for preparing their own meals. Do you understand our meal options?

  • During the term of your employment or volunteer service, DMC may provide mandatory training sessions on topics including diversity, equity, and inclusion; sexual harassment; and ethical conduct, including those that address personal and societal oppression, power dynamics, and skillful bystander intervention.
