Dishwasher/Busser

Drala Mountain Center is a 600-acre mountain valley retreat nestled at an elevation of 7,500 feet in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. Surrounded by native forests, gentle meadows and rocky peaks, this powerful land has been tamed by decades of use as a contemplative retreat center. For more than 40 years, extraordinary people have gathered here to experience Buddhist teachings and partake in over 100 year-round programs that include meditation, indigenous wisdom traditions, body awareness practices, contemplative arts, mindful living, and other paths of personal transformation.

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Dishwasher/Busser to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient dining environment. The ideal candidate will support food service operations by ensuring dishes and utensils are properly cleaned, assisting with bussing tables, and contributing to a positive guest experience. Previous restaurant, catering, or hotel experience is a plus, especially in food handling, food preparation, and kitchen support roles.

Duties

  • Wash dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans using commercial dishwashing equipment or manual cleaning methods
  • Clear and reset tables efficiently to prepare for the next guests
  • Assist with bussing tables by removing used dishes and debris promptly
  • Support food preparation tasks as needed, including basic kitchen assistance and ingredient setup
  • Maintain cleanliness of the dining area, kitchen stations, and dishwashing areas in compliance with health standards
  • Help with catering events or banquet setups when required
  • Follow proper food handling procedures to ensure safety and hygiene standards are met
  • Support the culinary team with light cooking or food service tasks during busy periods

Requirements

  • Previous experience in food service, restaurant, catering, or hospitality environments is preferred but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of food handling safety protocols and sanitation standards
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and bending
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a positive attitude
  • Experience with bussing, food preparation, or kitchen support roles is advantageous
  • Flexibility to work during busy meal times and weekends as needed

  • We anticipate that most incoming employees and volunteers will be housed indoors. Many of our indoor housing options will require living with one or more staff members in separate bedrooms. Some incoming staff may be housed in canvas tents from early June through early September. Employees are charged $100.00 per month for housing. Do you understand our current housing situation?
  • Your assigned housing may require you to share a gendered bathhouse with other community members and guests. We also have a private gender neutral restroom available for showering. Are you willing to share a gendered bathhouse with curtained showers?
  • Participation in DMC's meal plan is required for all employees who live in DMC-provided housing. The meal plan costs $350.00 per month and typically includes three prepared meals per day, coffee, tea, fruit, and snacks. Meat is offered at some meals. Vegetarian, vegan, and wheat-free options are available at each meal. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any other dietary needs. Employees and volunteers do not have use of a kitchen for preparing their own meals. Do you understand our meal options?

  • During the term of your employment or volunteer service, DMC may provide mandatory training sessions on topics including diversity, equity, and inclusion; sexual harassment; and ethical conduct, including those that address personal and societal oppression, power dynamics, and skillful bystander intervention.
