Accountant 2026

Position Summary

Drala Mountain Center (DMC) is a nonprofit meditation retreat center dedicated to Buddhist
contemplative practices and stewardship of 600 acres in the Rocky Mountains. The accountant
plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and long-term sustainability of the Center
through accurate financial management, reporting, and compliance. This role works closely with the
Executive Director, operations, and finance team to ensure financial clarity, accountability, and
alignment with DMC’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

● Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting
schedules
● Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
● Prepare monthly financial statements, dashboards, and variance analyses for
leadership and board review
● Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and
collections
● Track cash flow and support short- and long-term forecasting
● Support annual budgeting and reforecasting processes
● Manage restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with donor intent, nonprofit
best practices and GAAP accounting standards
● • Support grant tracking, reporting, and documentation
● • Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors
● Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures
● Partner with Program, Development, and Operations teams to improve financial
processes and transparency

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
● 3–7 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred
● Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
● Experience managing restricted funds and donor-designated accounts
● Proficiency with accounting software, ADP, and strong spreadsheet skills
● High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
● Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders

• Experience working with retreat centers, educational institutions, or mission-driven nonprofits
• Grant accounting and reporting
• Payroll coordination and benefits reconciliation
• Audit preparation and financial process improvement

  • We anticipate that most incoming employees and volunteers will be housed indoors. Many of our indoor housing options will require living with one or more staff members in separate bedrooms. Some incoming staff may be housed in canvas tents from early June through early September. Employees are charged $100.00 per month for housing. Do you understand our current housing situation?
  • Your assigned housing may require you to share a gendered bathhouse with other community members and guests. We also have a private gender neutral restroom available for showering. Are you willing to share a gendered bathhouse with curtained showers?
  • Participation in DMC's meal plan is required for all employees who live in DMC-provided housing. The meal plan costs $350.00 per month and typically includes three prepared meals per day, coffee, tea, fruit, and snacks. Meat is offered at some meals. Vegetarian, vegan, and wheat-free options are available at each meal. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any other dietary needs. Employees and volunteers do not have use of a kitchen for preparing their own meals. Do you understand our meal options?
