Ivy Kim

Ivy Kim attributes her affinity with nature to growing up within the urban wilds of Denver, with daily explorations in a nearby field, making friends with flowers in her Grandmother’s garden, and the myriad of outdoor experiences available in Colorado.

The directness, flow, and pauses of the multi-voiced conversation in the landscape inspire Ivy’s artwork. She uses playful marks, patterns, spontaneity, and abstraction to describe the expressive spirit of nature. This loose and immediate quality of the imagery conveys the felt sense of being in the land. Through her work, she shares a joyful sense of nature’s rhythms and patterns. She invites viewers to connect with the animate world and its depth, poetry, and power.

Ivy’s academic training includes a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

In addition, for the last eight years, she has guided transformational experiences for others informed by nature and creativity. Through nature-connected coaching, a type of eco-life coaching, she blends artmaking and relationship with nature into coaching sessions. She completed certifications in Nature Connected Coaching and Transformational Wilderness Guiding through Earth-Based Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and went on to assist in training students in the same programs.

Ever curious about how the earth and the human psyche are dancing, Ivy recently completed a Master of Arts in Ecopsychology at Naropa University (May 2022). Her artwork is represented by Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Crested Butte, CO.
