An early student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Richard served as an acharya to the Sakyong for 20 years. He completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey, and for 25 years has led mahamudra retreats at Karme Chöling, Dorje Denma Ling, DMC (Shambhala Mountain Center) and Casa Werma. Richard and his wife Liz live in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
