After a long closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then due to the Cameron Peak Fire, The Great Stupa is once again open to visitors, as of October 10, 2021. While the Stupa did not burn, it sustained damage from smoke and soot. Restoration work continues. Presently, the Stupa does not have cushions in place for meditation.
The Stupa Visitor Center and artist studio burned in the fire. Plans are underway to rebuild the Visitor Center in 2022.
To prepare for your visit, please wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection and a water bottle. We are located at 8,000 feet so it is easy to become dehydrated.
Please note: Dogs and other pets are not allowed at SMC.
